Ziira's lie may have worked, had she not been lying to fellow canines. All wolves and dogs understood the importance of a pack and puppies, and Sabbath knew that no pack would allow their children to get lost. Not without a massive search party to find them again. That in itself would be easy to do by scent. No, if they had gotten lost, their pack would have found them by now.
Not to mention no puppy casually told a total stranger that they were lost. Ziira's turning away only confirmed to Sabbath that the puppy was, if not flat-out lying, then at least not telling her the entire truth. That and there was the smell -- the smell of uncertainty, of guilt, of wrong. Tail high and ears forward, Sabbath stared down at the two puppies.
"Really? Interesting that they would not be concerned about this and find you. It's not like you don't have a scent. For all I know, your pack could be coming down to attack us for stealing you right now."
Her words, while not overtly harsh, were blunt and made it clear that Sabbath knew she wasn't being told the whole story -- and didn't like that one bit. The fact was, not only the puppy's safety was at sake, but her pack's as well. She didn't appreciate some puppies putting her family at danger, and for what? She didn't know.
And so she took a risk.
"So what really happened?"
Maybe the puppies really had gotten lost. Maybe it was possible that two packs could be messed up or incompetent. But she was willing to believe something else was at work.

Ziira stayed silent for a few moments, deciding her words. The last thing she wanted was another, older wolf to lose trust in her, especially if they might end up stuck in the same pack.
"There is definatly going to be one other wolf tracking us... Our sister has always held grudges and she will go to any length to satisfy it... But she is the only other I know that will follow us... We were left behind while we crossed this forest heading for the south. Our parents didn't care about us, or they would turn around and come back"
She paused for a few moments, then decided that was all she needed to say, thinking to herself as she waited for her reply.
I hope Kira decides not to come... I don't think I could stand seeing her again

Sabbath frowned as the puppy gave her an entirely different story -- one that this time, the Beta suspected was actually true. She could not smell nor see any indications that the puppy was lying... Which was truly bizarre, since this story was even more far-fetched and bizarre than the last one. Two puppies abandoned by their parents, but not with the rest of their siblings? One who would be stalking them? Apparently she had missed the fact that the entire world had gone insane. Toki surviving being abandoned by odd enough, but now this? She got to look forward to a weird puppy tracking them? The puppy was more likely to die for leaving the pack willingly. Sabbath found that, for all she couldn't smell a lie, she simply couldn't believe that a young puppy would be stalking her former siblings out of some grudge. "I see." Whatever she planned on saying was cut off by a soft yap -- a sound more suited to a dog than wolf, but that's what having a dog mate and half-dog children did to you. Ears perked and tail waving, if still dominant, Sabbath turned her attention to the aging male who had arrived. White splashed his muzzle and stomach, and despite a bulky, furry body and head, his legs were thin and his walk awkward. Age, it seemed, had not agreed with Denegrad too well, though Sabbath thought if he didn't pout so much he'd be in better shape. He had no problems with her, though. Wagging his tail, the omega and fallen alpha approached and licked the bottom of Sabbath's muzzle, before turning to the puppies. Young -- too young to be alone. He turned to Sabbath, one ear tilted back. "Abandoned by their respective packs. Another puppy may be arriving if she doesn't die in the wilderness." Had she actually believed that part, Sabbath may have sounded more concerned; instead, doubt was evident in her voice and tilted ears. Denegrad nodded, not asking for details. Not until the puppies were settled and out of earshot. Instead, he turned to the three, tail wagging. "Greetings. I'm Denegrad; I'll be taking care of you." He sounded none too excited about the prospect, and Sabbath growled softly; no need to frighten the puppies by being an old fart. Denegrad lowered himself slightly, but did not look at her. "Would you like to go to the den?"

Tookie Looked up at ANOTHER new wolf she thought to herself "DEFINATELY the weirdest day of my life" She smiled at Denegrad because she felt she had been scared too many times in one day and she should just trust someone for once.
Toki had overheard something about a sister of her new friends coming and she didn't know to be worried or to just mellow her mind for the rest of the day at least. Toki completely forgot she was looking at Denegrad the whole time and she made a weird face to herself because she probbably looked like a fool the whole time.
She regained herself and said "hi, I'm Toki and umm... uhhh...I've just had the weirdest day of my life" She Made a strange face and whispered to herself "did that just come out of my mouth?!" She looked back up at Denegrad with a nervous smile. "umm.. sorry..Uhh.. its very nice to meet you, Denegrad and yes I wold love to go to your den." She sighed and thought "maybe I had better work on my speaking skills...."

Ziira shook her head then looked around, finding Soul lying on his back like the lazy idiot he is. She looked back up Denegrad, ears not flat with fear, but, infact, she was showing quite the opposite emotions. She was curious about him, wondering if he was strict or easy-going. Then she started to wonder..
Are we safe with him? In a den, far from our own family, with wolves we have never met before
She dismissed the thoughts before they got any worse, turning back to Denegrad, nodding her head, then back to her brother
"What are you waiting for? Get up or we'll leave you behind"

Denegrad couldn't help but smile at Toki. Sure, it sucked that he was on puppy duty, after having spent most of his life nurturing this pack and being its alpha. There was something oddly adorable about the puppy's babbling, though, and of course her statement about having had a weird day. He could only imagine; this puppy was far too young to have been thrown into the wilderness, then survived long enough to have been found. The entire scenario was likely mind-boggling.
She was cute, though, and so Denegrad gently touched his nose to the puppy's head, tail waving. He then turned to the other two puppies, who had not directly responded to his words at all. One was, for whatever reason, lying on his back. One of Denegrad's ears flicked back as he watched, noting the other puppy's curious gaze. They were older, but that only made their abandonment more baffling. Toki he could understand -- young, weak -- but these two? It almost seemed like a waste to raise them this far and then leave them behind.
He supposed it was just something he would never understand. He never would have considered abandoning Sabbath and Gabriel, not even when Zalah had been so ill she could not take care of herself, let alone her two hungry puppies. It just wasn't right.
He pushed the thoughts aside. Thinking about Zalah for too long never put him in a happy mood, and he needed to reassure the puppies that they were safe.
"Very well. Follow me."
With a wave of his tail, he turned and walked slowly towards the den. Sabbath padded alongside the puppies, ready to offer encouragement or even carry one of them if need be.

[glow=yellow,2,300]OOC: POST #50!!! HOORAY! Thanks for posting! ;D[/glow]
IC: Toki looked back at Ziira and Soul, then up at Denegrad who was walking away. Toki chased after him with her tongue hanging out of her mouth. She tried not to look silly but it it was impossible not for her to play being the pup she is. She ran around him in circles and jumped up just high enough to touch his tail with her nose
"where is the den?" she asked him slowing down at his side. She hoped they would get there soon. She was curious and wanted to see a den. She couldn't remember being in a den back at her old pack and was forgetting more about it with every passing minute.
She just didn't realize it yet.

ooc: yay its going again! my internet is being a b*#$! though so it takes atleast 20 mintues to post lol... and I cant get on because of stupid rules.. well, here I go, after not rping in AGES
ic: Ziira turned in the direction the others were going and started to walk slowly behind them, looking around at her surroundings as she went, while her brother slowly got to his feet.. err.. paws... and padded along, passing Ziira in seconds, slowing on Denegrad's other side, silently, boredly, following him. Ziira yawned widely as she sped up, walking a few meters behind the three, her mind racing with questions, none of which she bothered to pay attention to. A cool wind raced in over them, catching her by surprise and almost blowing her over. She eyed Toki from where she was, thinking to herself.
Great... a few months trapped with a little, weak, pup... How.. Perfect
She snarled alittle at the thought, before forcibly returning to a nuetral face incase someone looked. The dead leaves cracked under her paws as she padded along silently, minutes ticking away. Birds stared at them from the trees as they went along, chirping away, clouds blotting out the sun from the sky. After another few minutes, Soul raised his head and asked Denegrad, exaustion obvious.
How much further is it? because I'm beat..

Denegrad wagged his tail at Toki as she bounded forward, chasing after him in play. He knew he could probably join her play for a few moments, maybe, once they were at the den; but he was getting old, arthritis slowly seeping into his joints, and in another two winters he probably would be reduced to laying around the den, fed by his children and only managing to leave and help hunt at the height of summer. It was not a comforting thought, and the wolf shook it away.
He turned to make sure the other wolves were following, and stared at the tiny snarl on the female puppy's face; it was directed at the younger puppy. He growled softly in Ziira's direction, tail rising; better to put her in her place now rather than later. Little rivalries were okay and all, but none of the puppies were in the state to handle them right now, and they were going to behave themselves while they was under his watch.
Toki and Soul asked their questions one shortly after the other, and Denegrad swallowed a chuckle. Right; tinier legs than his. He slowed his pace for them, scenting the air for their benefit, though he knew exactly where he was going.
"Not much farther. In a few minutes you may be able to see it."
Indeed, mound of dirt and plants could be spotted among the trees if they puppies looked hard enough. It was small, but then, it had not been designed for the whole pack; just a place for the mother and puppies to stay until they grew up.
Or, Denegrad thought wryly, three orphaned puppies and an old ousted alpha. He pushed the bitter thoughts aside as they came upon the den. Tail waving, he glanced at the puppies, then the den itself.
"Go in and explore if you want. I'll stay out here; it's crowded with me in there too."
With that, the male lied down outside the den, letting the puppies go in on their own if they so chose.

Well, Tookie thought, it's not what I expected. Then again, I don't really know what to expect. Why don't I? I remembered what my den looked like just a little while ago! She started feeling scared... of herself...
She looked back at Denegrad smiled and said "It's great!' She wasn't lieing either, it was perfect. Small but not too small. she started to jump and play with a frog on the ground. She gestured for Ziira or Soul to come join her. They were pups too anyway, maybe they would play too?
Yeah the day was weird. VERY weird. But a pup could get used to this!

ooc: Toki, please don't double post? especially if it's not rping, add it into your last post next time __Soul rushed into the den with new energy, barely taking notice of the actual surroundings, instead running towards Toki and her frog. Ziira, on the other hand, stayed back and wandered cautiously, examining the forest, then the den as she stepped inside. She didn't remember her last den, it had been a while since they had settled down, and had spent the last month with her pack travelling, only settling to sleep. __After a minute or two inside the den, Ziira sat near the back and watched her brother play with Toki.. That pup.. The weakest of the lot.. She would only be holding us back in future, she thought as she glared, the shadow making it hard to read her expresions, so she didn't bother to hide how she felt. She looked around again, then muttered, loud enough to be heard over the others, though. _"Well, It really is cramped in here.."

Suddenly, he could smell fear. It was not pungent, like there was a true danger, but rather a subtle scent, perhaps more uncertainty than actual fright. Ears tilting back, he looked down at Toki, but when she spoke, she was being honest. He wagged his tail at her, smiling, and then watched as she pounded playfully for a frog, soon disappearing into the den. It reminded him of Sabbath when she was a puppy, always going after little animals and pretending she was a full hunter.
He didn't expect the pang of longing; after all, he still had his children. But it wasn't the same without Zalah, and with the puppies now full adults who ruled over his pack. It made him feel old -- far too old.
All puppies inside the den, he settled down outside the entrance. His sense of smell wasn't what it used to be, but one of the puppies didn't seem right to him. He laid his head on his paws, hoping that he would not end up having to discipline them severely in the future. He wasn't sure he was the male for the job.
At hearing Ziira's comment he sighed softly to himself; of course, she is the first one to raise a complaint.
"It was made for a small litter. It will keep you warm in the cold."
His tone of voice made it clear that she should probably stop complaining. Ears flicking back, Denegrad wondered when Sabbath would come by. Maybe she knew something that could help him better understand this bunch.

The frog hopped away after a few minutes of being chased around. Toki watched it bound towards the forest and a brown leaf landed on her muzzle. "Well, that's a good thing... cause the trees are shedding" She shook her head and it fell off.
Then, she started to worry about remembering her old life.
What else did she forget?
Her mother's scent? Her Brothers and sisters? The day she was kicked out? No, I doubt I'll forget that one...
Maybe it'll do me some good to forget... If i were to go back... If that alpha is still there... i'd be killed for sure...
She pushed that thought away and walked into the den. with Ziira. (OOC: we were outside right?) She sat down in the den next to Ziira and got a different thought. "Um, when is winter coming anyway?"

Ziira looked down, confusion obvious in her features. She opened her mouth to answer at the neive pup, one that could forget winter, before she shut her mouth and thoguht dumbly to herself.
When is winter?
She looked towards her brother for the answer, but he just shrugged and walked around the den, looking for something interesting to do inside. Turning, she walked back out of hte den to Denegrad, and asked him in an even tone, trying to mask any other thoughts in her head.
Do you know when winter is? We all forgot..
ooc: not my best, I'm out of practice.. so is my spelling
