Just to the west of the lake that serves as a border to Ursoj's pack territory (to the east of the lake), a wiry, young adult male wolf seemed to have himself confused for a woodpecker as he pounded his head into the base of a dead tree stag, causing the unfallen log to sway.
The wolf grunted, determined to bring the tree down. Above the creaking of the straining timber, a squirrel's cursing chitters could be heard inside. The squirrel, fattened for winter, poked her head out and glared down at the wolf, then desperately searched from her dizzingly-jolted home where her food stash was stored in an abandoned woodpecker's nest within the stag for any way out that wouldn't find her as the wolf's meal.
Finally, the wolf backed himself up on the snowy ground, then sprang-jumped higher up the trunk, squarely crashing his shoulder into the tree at a height sufficient to splinter enough of the tree's base that the tree tilted back.
Proud of himself -- if a bit numbed from his head-hammering upon the trunk, the wolf panted, his tongue flopping goofily from the side of his muzzle as he tried pondering -- in his numbed head -- how to bring the tree the rest of the way down and enjoy a tasty squirrel!

// She was beyond hungry. She hadn't eaten in so long that her stomach no longer grumbled. When it did make a sound, which was now rather rare, it roared. She'd neglected the need to hunt in favor of scouring this new land for that familiar face. He had to be here somewhere. Locating him was her top priority. Once she found him, everything would be right with the world. She presses on, her frame dangerously thin for the cold season. Her large ears twitch. She could hear something.... thumping.. in the distance. Thumping? Well, it was something to check up on at any rate. Curious and willing to follow any trails that may lead her to Naveen, she changes direction just a bit so she's heading toward the sound. An unusual sight graces her vision as she nears. A young wolf, from the scent on the air, a male, was throwing himself at a barren tree. She's brought up short for a moment before a frown crosses her face and she trudges forward. Her paws crunch against the white ground, face set in a determined grimace. She comes within a few yards as the wolf pauses. "Hey, what the heck are you doing?" she calls, planted firmly alongside another tree. Despite her strong emotional tendencies, she was quite a logical wolf and ramming your head into a tree just didn't make sense in her mind. \\
((Hoping that makes sense. Remind me to not reply at two in the morning.. X3))

The young male is not the brightest of wolves, and while not ordinarily the dimmest either, the questionable tactic of using his head as a battering ram to bring down a tree with a couple pounds of meat has its consequences on a wolf's awareness, and for that -- plus the noise and focus on his task-at-paw, of course -- prevented him from hearing the shewolf's approach.
Thus, the wood-pecker wolf looks rather astonished at the sudden call from a shewolf, shrinking back submissively.
"I ... errr ..." he stammers nervously. "Ummm ... I'm not on your territory, am I?" he asks. "I ... I thought this side of the lake was unclaimed ..."
The squirrel is ignored for the moment, and the would-be meal takes the momentary distraction to climb out of her now tilted home onto the trunk of the tree, desperately searching for an escape route from a home-wrecking nut of a mangy, slobbery, stupid wolf and a second set of unkind-looking jaws who looks even hungrier than the one trying to bring her house down! In the desperate scramble, as she climbs out of her hole, she clumsily knocks out some of the nuts she had gathered for her food stores, noisily knocking them down onto the snowy ground.

// Oormi tilts her head and frowns yet again. Was he on her land? Why no. No he was not. The idea of her having any land to begin with was enough to make her huff a laugh at the male. "No, you're not," she replies distractedly. This was not the one she'd been searching for. She shifts her weight restlessly, lifting her paws slightly, wondering if she should introduce herself. She hears a faint clatter come from the now half broken tree and glimpses over to see a few.. things falling to the ground. Searching for the source, she locates the small squirrel. It seemed quite desperate to escape. Was that what this male was doing? Hunting? How had he gotten the idea of trying to fell a tree for such a tiny morsel when there was other prey to be found at ground level? As she ponders this, a sudden pain of hunger stabs through her. Wow, she was hungry. When had she gotten so hungry? When has she last eaten? She couldn't remember. She blinks and quickly decides to keep tabs on the squirrel. Perhaps if it made a run for it, she would be compelled to follow. Any notion of introductions forgotten, she splits her focus between Kamanati and the squirrel, going on the inquire, "Are you trying to hunt that rodent?" \\

The young male draws his muzzle taut. 'Its mine, find your own!' is his first thought, but he doesn't voice it. He sheepishly shrugs his foreshoulders. "Yeah ... its getting harder and harder to find a meal."
His ears swivel to keep tabs on the squirrel. "My name is Kamanati," he introduces himself. "What's yours?"
[[OOC ... err, my severe apologies for abandoning this for so long!]]

((Don't worry about it. I've been a bit busy with college and such anyway. We've all had our little absences. )) // She leans back slightly at the wolf's initial reaction. No need to get into a scuffle over a tiny hunk of meat that would probably just end up slipping away before either of them could catch it. She was hungry but she had other priorities that allowed her to ignore it to a certain degree. As she realizes the male does seem inclined to react as she'd first thought, she relaxes a bit. She shakes her head, faintly amused but otherwise just appalled by his uncharacteristic behavior. As he offers his name, she stops shifting her gaze between wolf and squirrel and settles upon the wolf. "I'm Oormi.. Nice to meet you," she replies politely. She considers his statement about food and ponders it a moment. She supposed he was right. She hadn't really been focusing on food. It was a rather stupid thing for her to do, but she was putting all of her energies into finding Naveen. "Suppose I know what you mean about food," she adds distractedly. It made sense being winter and all snowy. She tried to remember the last time she'd hunted and finds herself drawing a blank. In perfect timing to punctuate her lack of memory, her stomach rumbles horridly loud and makes her cringe as it attempts to eat itself. \\

For all the head-bashing painful efforts he had made toward that tasty morsel now scampering about the branches, trying to gauge whether she could make a leap to another tree less prone to getting knocked down by a wolf-who-thinks-he's-a-bear, Kamanati relaxes his focus on the squirrel for the moment and juts his muzzle toward the female to study her scent.
"Are you from around here, Oormi?" he asks.

// She listens to the squirrel, glancing at it for a moment before Kamanati speaks again. Oormi looks back at him and tilts her head, ears perked toward the little rodent. The idea of chasing after it was still in her mind, especially now that her stomach was making it's displeasure known. Was she from here? Heavens no. She shakes her head slowly. "Oh, no.. I was dropped here by humans. Got separated from my... friend," she hesitates to say the word mate. It didn't feel official. Especially with such a distance between the two of them. And they weren't a mated pair.. No, friend seemed to fit much better. At least for now. Perhaps if they managed to find one another again, they would have the chance to become proper mates. \\

Kamanati's ears perk in alarm at the mention of "Humans!?!" Suddenly, all thoughts of the snack he'd literally banged his head trying to get at are lost, and the male backs away from the female wolf, looking left and right and sniffing the air intensely. "Humans bad!" he whines, shaking. His tail curls tightly and tucks between his hindlegs as he quivers a bit in fear.

// She jerks back away from the male at his panicked response. The mere mention of humans had set him off. She wondered why. As he cowers, she creeps forward, stance low and neutral. She didn't wan to frighten him any further. "They aren't anywhere near here. You're fine. I've been wandering for days," she explains quickly, trying to calm the male before he did something worse than ram his head into a tree. She pauses within a couple yards, hesitating whether to keep approaching or stop. The result of her indecisiveness is fidgeting. In attempt to lighten the mood, she continues speaking whatever came to mind. "But yes, humans are bad... and kind of smelly," she agrees with a little huff of a laugh. She remembers the squirrel with a faint jolt but stays put. The male's bizarre reaction had distracted her attention from the squirrel and no doubt the rodent had taken advantage of their distraction to escape. \\

Kamanati relaxes a bit, but still looks dishevelled. "Humans are cruel, murderous beasts," he whines. "I want to be as far from them as my paws can carry me. They ... they 'dropped' you here? They actually ... touched you?!"

// Her ears flatten back, quite bewildered by this wolf. She shifts her weight, somewhat anxiously, her tail horizontal to the ground as she stares at the male. Oormi was trying to gauge how he would react if she spoke further. Surely he wouldn't become violent? She was no human and as far as she knew the humans were long gone. She been on the move for days at any rate and was certain to be miles away from where they'd released her. She tenses minutely, deciding to take the slight risk of answering him. "Yes.. they did on occasion. They cared for me in cages for a while. Along with other wolves.." She trails off, being drawn into her thoughts about her companion. How stupid humans must be to separate them. It made her upset to think about. Instead, she tries to shove it from her mind and focus her attention on the wolf at hand to ensure that he didn't decide she was a threat due to exposure to humans. \\
((If you are wanting him to spaz a bit, you're more than welcome to attack her. Nothing more serious than a bite or two though.))

Kamanati's mood did not approve much. He did not seem poised to attack, but his fear and apprehension were definitely high; clearly, he was not thrilled with the notion of a wolf being tainted by man's captivity.
"If they dropped you here, then maybe I should find somewhere farther ... is there any place left under the sky untouched by them?" he wondered aloud.
