The story so far:
Scavengers of the feathered variety have gathered on the spoils of the grasslands fire in Gallop Free. Feeding on a burned horse cacass, the group - consisting of magpies, ravens, vultures, and crows - converse amongst themselves. There is a good deal of banter going on between Ripkin and Lirez & Snafu, who are tricking the former into thinking they are mates to taunt them. He is further embarassed when he spooks over a coyote that shows up at the kill.

~Amandus, it seemed, had an inability to focus on just one thing. For while he was perfectly content pecking at the carcass and getting a meal, he couldn't help but look around, attempt to listen in on a conversation or two, and notice what was happening in the surroundings. It was a good defense mechanism, keeping him aware of all surroundings, but he didn't use it so much to keep himself safe than to keep himself entertained.
And at that moment, he heard the call of a fellow crow, and immediately looked up. He then watched curiously as the female landed, and quickly found herself a place on the carcass, with little to no concern for the others already there. The male was tempted to try and start up a conversation, but something told him that she wasn't really in the mood to talk, and so he turned his attention elsewhere.
This elsewhere happened to be a raven suddenly flying into the air, croaking warnings. Felicia's head darted up as she looked with concern. She and Amandus both spotted the mangy coyote making its way up to the corpse. Felicia immediately stopped eating, watching it warily to make sure it didn't try to attack of them, but Amandus just mentally shrugged it off and resumed eating. It wasn't near him or making any threat, so he found no reason to be concerned. He hoped Felicia realized the same thing and didn't try to leave for "safety". So far, she seemed all right, and simply watched, tense and nervous, as the canine approached.~
~Palfuray, like her companion, paid little attention to the other birds. However, she also didn't pay much attention to the canines gathering steadily around the corpse. Worrying about them would be a waste of time that she could spend eating, and so she planned not to worry about them unless they were too close for comfort. At that moment, the only one around was not bothering her, and so she ignored it entirely.
At Tulumn's question she did pause in eating, swallowing the latest guts that she had pried from her part of the corpse.
"There aren't many scavengers in the area, but unfortunately, there is a bit of a prey shortage. I have found it rather difficult to find a corpse that hasn't already been picked apart by desperate canines or other animals."
Indeed, this was perhaps one of the first corpses that she had managed to get decent food off of. It wasn't that nothing died and was left to rot in this area -- It was just that everything else was hungry and found it before she could.~
~Snafu was relieved and slightly amused when his acting worked so well. Ripkin looked rather annoyed by the scene, while the magpie simply laughed and flew off. Lirez kept up the act, and so did Snafu, also coming a bit closer, though not too much so she didn't think he was serious.
Then, however, in the middle of ranting about the situation, Ripkin suddenly flew away, clearly panicked about something. Snafu watched him, confused as to what could have scared the large raven off. He turned his attention to the distance, trying to find something. However, all he spotted was a mangy coyote, and to Snafu, that wasn't a danger at all. If anything, it could possibly be a good thing. Sure, it was a bit scary-looking, but if it had planned to attack them, it would have done so by now.
Snafu turned towards Ripkin when the male addressed him, concerning something about "hydrophobes". Snafu honestly had no idea what he was talking about, having never heard the term before. However, he did know that the coyote wasn't any harm, and the canine proved it as he approached. He looked hungry, sure, but his offer was a good one... And so Snafu spoke without really thinking about how odd his reaction may be.
"Of course. Feel free."
The male then hopped off the carcass, making a small amount of room for the coyote to get in and eat. It wasn't until after he had done so that Snafu remembered he was among "normal" birds, and they may find his willingness to accept the coyote's offer a little off. Shortly after, the raven decided that he really didn't care. Canines weren't a problem if you knew how to interact with them, and Snafu, after living with them, knew how to handle them better than his own kind. If the other birds found it weird, well, that was their problem, not his.~
((My posts are turning craptacular, it appears. I got writer's block half-way through))
